Master Program

The graduates of the Master Program are prepared to be academics, researchers, and practitioners in the media and cultural fieldwork who have theoretical and critical knowledge.

Education Process and Period

The master's program is planned in 4 semesters (2 years) with a minimum of 45 credits, including a thesis. The maximum time limit for the study period is in 4 years.

Academic calendar:
• Semester I: early August - late January
• Semester II: early February - late August

The classroom and other academic activities, such as seminars, research, and so on, are carried out with a mentoring system by academic supervisors and thesis supervisors. All thesis tested must have gone through a Turnitin plagiarism check with a maximum similarity of 20%.

Tuition

  • Tuition fees for domestic students, by personal or by sponsors, in 4 semesters range from Rp. 24,000,000.00—Rp. 35,000,000.00.
  • Tuition fees for foreign students are approximately $2,000 per semester.

Prospective students who meet the requirements are likely to get scholarships from BPPS Depdiknas project (specifically for permanent lecturers). Curriculum

The Media and Cultural Studies Master's Program is designed for four (4) semesters or two (2) years of study.

Semester I: Compulsory and Elective Courses (12 credits – 18 credits)
Semester II: Compulsory and Elective Courses (12 credits – 18 credits)
Semester III: Thesis Proposal Seminar (4 Credits)
Semester IV: Thesis (8 credits)

Attitude

Students have a critical attitude, respect differences, and social sensitivity to forms of unequal power relations in all aspects of daily life, both in the private and public spheres.

Knowledge

Students understand in-depth theories and concepts of media and cultural studies fieldwork and use them to examine various media and cultural practices with critical paradigms and interdisciplinary approaches.

General Skills

Able to express sensitivity and critical attitude towards forms of unequal power relations in various ways of writing, both academic and non-academic.

Special skill

Students contribute to the society's development of an intelligent, critical, and wise society towards mediated cultural practices through media literacy activities.

Courses

Compulsory Courses
This course consists of theoretical and methodological courses and a thesis. The students must be master the compulsory courses to become academic or professional experts in media and cultural studies fieldwork.

Elective courses
Students can choose the courses according to their study interests and support their thesis research. This course contains issues related to media and cultural studies along with their theories and approaches. Students are required to take 2 – 3 elective courses (6 – 9 credits).
