Disinformation in the post-truth era is a serious threat to the establishment of a healthy electoral democracy. The legitimacy of truth is not based on verifiable facts, but on personal beliefs and affect or something that touches emotions and feelings.

Lies and truth become difficult to identify as a result. These disinformation practices based on lies and falsehoods are then spread in more diverse forms thanks to the emergence of social media. Disinformation colored by hate speech in the media space has gradually resulted in sharper political polarization and threatened social cohesion.

In response to this, the Head of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan, in his book Democracy in the Post Truth Era, shows that social media has the ability to spread misinformation, raise wild conspiracy theories, talk about certain parties negatively without a clear basis. , as well as causing polarization in society. At the same time, political practices in the post-truth era have a negative impact on the erosion of a healthy tradition of debate in society, the occurrence of political deadlocks, the uncertainty of a policy, and can even alienate society from political dynamics.
