Doctoral Program in KBM Conducts Community Service in Margodadi Village (Part 2)

Cycling Around the Tourism Village

After completing the first Training of Trainers, the PKM team from the Doctoral Program in KBM returned to Margodadi Village to continue their field survey. On Saturday (July 20), two Doctoral students and the KBM program staffs cycled through the village to identify potential locations that could be developed into tourist destinations. During their tour, they observed several potential spots such as an art studio, Tuk Sibedug (a local spring), and a batik production center to gain a clearer understanding of the village’s tourism potential.

At the art studio, the team spoke with local artisans who create gamelan instruments and rent out traditional dance costumes. They then visited Tuk Sibedug, a spring that serves as the focal point of the annual Kirab Budaya (Cultural Procession). However, this year’s Kirab Budaya is at risk of being canceled due to environmental damage caused by the nearby toll road construction. After passing through the dusty toll road area, the team continued to the batik production site, where several members had the opportunity to try their hand at coloring batik fabrics. In addition, they also learned how to make wayang suket puppets from dried grass.

Besides exploring cultural tourism potential, the team also reviewed agro-tourism sites, including the fish pond managed by the village head of Grogol. The head complained about the negative impacts of the toll road project, such as noise pollution and damage to the water embankment, which affected the fish farming business. The team also observed a self-managed waste disposal system that utilizes maggot cultivation to decompose organic waste, though it is still on a small scale.

The survey results were discussed in a meeting held on Tuesday (August 13) to outline the program and assign tasks. Fransisca Putri Nirmala Gunawan, M.A., will be responsible for the village profiling program, while Yanuarita Kusuma Permata Sari, M.Med.Kom., and Kathryn Widhiyanti, M.Cs., will oversee the Village Tourism Website Creation Program for Margodadi Village.
