The Media and Cultural Studies Program (KBM) welcomed new master’s and doctoral students of the 2024 cohort. The KBM Program Management provided orientation to 28 new master’s students on Thursday (8/8) and to 8 new doctoral students on Friday (9/8).
During the orientation for the master’s students, the Head of the Master’s Program, Ratna Noviani, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D., who is commonly known as Bu Nana, presented the curriculum and the structure of the courses they will undertake. Additionally, Bu Nana explained the various programs that students can participate in while studying at KBM UGM. The presentation was followed by Elok Santi Jesica, M.A., the Quality Assurance Coordinator, who provided information about the facilities available to students, especially the supporting infrastructure at the UGM Graduate School. The 28 new students joining the KBM Master’s Program come from various backgrounds, such as journalists, practitioners, and cultural observers. During the introduction session, many new students shared their background and interest in applying to KBM, often mentioning the encouragement they received.
In addition to the introduction between the new students and the program management, Dr. Budiawan, the Head of the KBM Doctoral Program, explained the structure and curriculum for the doctoral students, including mandatory courses, elective courses, publication requirements, and more. The explanation of the doctoral curriculum was very detailed, as the course structure and graduation requirements for the doctoral program are slightly more complex compared to the master’s program.
The event concluded with a social gathering and group photo. The new students will begin classes on Monday, August 19, 2024.
