Department of Media and Cultural Studies (KBM) UGM has organized a lecture with Prof. Jose van Dijck from Utrecht University titled “Governing Platform Societies,” with Prof. Hermin Indah Wahyuni serving as the moderator. Prof. van Dijck emphasized the importance of sovereignty and democracy in digital platforms as public spheres. Additionally, Prof. van Dijck raised concerns about the monetization of social media and other platforms that threaten the security and privacy of the global community. The participants appeared enthusiastic, asking questions and listening attentively to Prof. van Dijck’s explanations. The public lecture concluded with Prof. van Dijk presenting his authored book to the KBM, symbolically accepted by Dr. Budiawan, the Head of the Doctoral program.
