Workshop “Not All Meanings Are Created Equal” with Prof. Eva Warth (Part II)

The Master’s Program in Media and Cultural Studies (KBM), Universitas Gadjah Mada, held the second session of the workshop titled “Not All Meanings Are Created Equal: Narrative Techniques in Moving Image” with Prof. Dr. Eva Warth, professor emerita from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, on Tuesday (May 21) at Meeting Room A, UGM Graduate School Building.

This follow-up workshop built upon the first session, on which participants were asked to present their analyses of moving images by applying narrative theories previously studied. Most participants enthusiastically brought film examples as their analytical objects, demonstrating both a deep understanding and creativity in dissecting visual narrative elements.

Through interactive presentations and discussions, participants not only sharpened their visual analysis skills but were also introduced to multimodal research as a promising method in media and cultural studies. Prof. Eva Warth encouraged participants to further explore this method, especially for those interested in integrating various forms of media and representation in their research. This workshop is expected to offer new insights into how multimodal approaches can enrich analysis in contemporary academic research.
